Consett are looking for a new manager for the second time in six weeks following the resignation of Tony Harrison.

Harrison was appointed just before Christmas, and was in charge of two games against Esh Winning and Durham City, but he has decided to quit because of personal reasons.

Harrison, who was manager of Ashington until late November, said: "I dived back into management too early after leaving Ashington.

"I don't think I've got enough enthusiasm in view of the amount of work that needs to be done.

"There's nothing sinister, it's nothing to do with Consett. I just needed a longer break."

Consett secretary Ian Hamilton, who is once again inviting applications for the job, said: "We found out at training in midweek. Tony told us that he wants a long spell away from management to recharge his batteries."

Harrison took charge of the team at Bedlington on Saturday, but the game was postponed less than ten minutes before the kick-off.

The only Northern League game to take place was at Guisborough, who beat Brandon 4-1.

Guisborough are third from bottom and Brandon have now gone seven matches without a win and are sliding back towards the relegation zone.

Brandon manager Vince Kirkup said: "We were rock bottom. Maybe some of our players thought the match wouldn't go ahead because of the weather.

"We didn't win any battles at all. We hit the bar early in the game before Guisborough scored, but that only papered over the cracks."

Guisborough took the lead after 11 minutes when Lee Alexander turned on the edge of the box and chipped Brandon keeper Danny Yates, and they went further ahead when Austin Johnson scored at the second attempt from Darren Sankey's pass.

Simon Kasonali fired the third midway through the second half and, after Stephen Flockett pulled a goal back from an Aaron Scott pass, Jonathan Taylor wrapped it up for Guisborough with a fourth.

Crook, Shildon and Billingham Town have reported structural damage following the storms on Friday night. All of the matches involving the region's UniBond League teams were postponed because of the weather.

There was further bad news for Bishop Auckland who went bottom of the Premier Division after Frickley beat Bridlington 3-1 to lift them off the bottom. The club have appointed Helen Coverdale as their commercial manager.
