A CAMPAIGN has been launched to improve literacy and numeracy in the region.
The programme has been initiated by the Northern Trade Union Congress (TUC) and the Learning and Skills Council.
Staff at Teesside's Coast and Country Housing Association are the latest to take part in the scheme.
Jim Martin, a member of the Unison union and a union learning representative at the housing association, agreed to work with the TUC's Learning for All Fund. His colleagues at Coast and Country Housing Association can learn in and out of the work environment.
Across the region, more than 1,000 people such as Mr Martin are helping North-East employees take up work-based learning opportunities with the Get On North-East initiative.
The Learning For All Fund is administered by the Northern TUC, with money provided by the Learning and Skills Council.
