THE new headteacher of a North Yorkshire school is making plans to improve standards.
Tadeusz Zaranko comes to Risedale Community College, in Hipswell, Catterick Garrison, from Ripon College, where he was deputy headteacher for nearly six years.
Before that, Mr Zaranko, whose parents are Polish, was head of maths at an inner-city school in Bradford.
Mr Zaranko said: "My number one aim is to improve standards at Risedale.
"I want to see the school at the forefront of educational development locally and nationally.
"I know we can get there. One of the reasons I felt I wanted to come here is the very strong team of staff."
From Easter, the college will become an extended school and will work with primary schools and organisations, such as the heath service, to provide services for the community. It will also become a sports development centre.
Mr Zaranko, who replaces Carol Brown, said: "I want the school to become a centre of excellence. I'm looking to helping Risedale move forward in its development."
