BANNATYNE Fitness has appointed NIGEL ARMSTRONG as managing director.
The Darlington-based company is on course to meet its target of 40 health clubs nationwide by the end of this year, with three centres being built and further sites to add to its 34 clubs in England, Scotland and Wales.
Mr Armstrong has worked in the health and fitness industry for more than eight years and was part of the team, alongside chairman Duncan Bannatyne, that launched Bannatyne Fitness in 1996.
He has been involved in the expansion of the company and will manage the clubs and Bannatyne's other leisure operations, including Bar Bannatyne, at the Gate, in Newcastle, and Darlington's New Grange Hotel.
Mr Armstrong, an accountant, takes on the role after two years as operations director.
He said: "This is an exciting time for Bannatyne Fitness as we continue to maintain our position as the UK's leading independent operator with clubs set to open in new areas including Shrewsbury, Hastings and Rotherham this year."
