DARLINGTON will learn the full extent of Clyde Wijnhard's groin injury this morning.

The striker will be assessed by club physio Paul Gough after limping off in the 55th minute of Saturday's 1-1 draw with Oxford United at the Williamson Motors Stadium.

Wijnhard, who has scored seven goals since joining Quakers in October, now faces a race to be fit in time for Saturday's League Two clash with fifth-placed Northampton Town.

"It's a little bit too early to tell, but we should have a better idea when we take a look at him on Tuesday," said Gough.

"He's suffered a strain so will have to miss at least a couple of days training. At the moment it's 50-50 whether he'll be fit for the weekend."

Craig Hignett has not fully recovered from flu, but should be fit in time to travel to the Sixfields Stadium. Hignett was an unused substitute against Oxford.

In addition, Quakers will be boosted by the return of midfielder Neil Maddison, who resumed training yesterday after an ankle injury.

Skipper Craig Liddle stepped up his recovery with a four-mile run. The defender is scheduled to return in a fortnight after undergoing a double hernia operation last month.

Meanwhile, manager David Hodgson will make a decision on Dean Gordon this week. The former Middlesbrough defender has been training with Quakers after leaving League Two rivals, Grimsby Town.

The Teesside-based 31-year-old has also attracted interest from Scottish Premier League side Dundee, but would prefer to remain in the North-East.

However, Hodgson has stated a striker remains a priority and that any move for Gordon will only materialise if a player makes way. The Quakers boss last week confirmed that York City, Macclesfield Town and Kidderminster Harriers have made enquiries for two of his players.

Hodgson is expected to hold contract talks with Adolfo Gregorio and Adrian Webster this week.

The pair look set to earn extensions on their current deals, which expire after the Northampton game. Both have impressed during their brief spells at the WMS. Gregorio scored his first goal for the club against Oxford, while Webster has established himself in the Quakers midfield.
