Loftus library has closed while improvements are carried out.
Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council is spending £90,000 improving access for the disabled.
The work will include the installation of automatic doors and accessible toilets.
Users can access a temporary libary service, which is operating from offices at the Loftus Development Trust, in the town's Co-op in the High Street.
The library is expected to reopen on Monday, February 7.
Improvements to disabled access will also be made at Redcar's central library, Guisborough, Saltburn and Dormanstown over the coming months, but will not mean any disruption.
The council's cabinet member for culture, leisure and tourism, Councillor Dave Fitzpatrick, said: "We have an official four-star excellent library service and these improvements will ensure it continues to provide everything and more our users require.
