The search is on to replace a former North East councillor who provoked national outcry by serving his constituents from a Caribbean island 4,500 miles away.
Wear Valley District Council has called a by-election to fill Stephen Gregory's former seat representing the Bishop Auckland town ward, in County Durham. Mr Gregory, who resigned in December, had claimed hundreds of pounds in allowances for being a councillor despite moving to the Dominican Republic. His case prompted calls for a change in the laws governing local council allowances.
Chief Executive of Wear Valley District Council, and the returning officer, is inviting applications for the post to be sent to Civic Centre, Crook, Co Durham, DL15 9ES.
After nominations have been received an election date will be set.
