PEOPLE throughout the county have responded in their droves in support of the appeal to help victims of the Asian Tsunami disaster by organising fundraising activities and taking collections.
St Cuthbert's Phoenix Club will hold an all-day bring and buy sale on Friday, January 21, in St Cuthbert's coffee shop, Ropery Lane, Chester-le- Street, between 10am and 5pm. Coffee will be available from 10am until noon, light lunches will be served from noon until 2pm, and afternoon teas from 2pm until 5pm.
The club will also hold a charity concert on Thursday, January 27, at 7.30pm, in St Cuthbert's RC Church Hall, Lumley Terrace. It will feature Youth Connection performing songs from the shows and easy listening songs by Les and Friends. The Beamish Mary Inn at No Place, near Stanley, is holding a world music night on February 4, from 8pm, which will feature Asian, African, Latin American and European music. Entry is free and collections will be held to help the relief efforts.
Our Lady Queen of Martyrs school in Esh Winning, near Durham City, will host a coffee afternoon on Thursday, January 20, at 2.45pm in the school hall.
Staff at Durham Town Hall organised a coffee morning last Saturday morning that raised £415 for the relief effort.
BearparkCommunity Centre will host a bring and buy sale this Friday, from 10am until 3pm. Most items will be on sale for 50p or less and visitors are invited to take unwanted items for sale on the day.
People at Brancepeth, near Durham City, raised £300 during a party celebrating the 80th anniversary of their village hall.
A rock and roll concert is to take place at Fish Tank in Neville Street, Durham City on Thursday, January 20. The night gets under way at 8pm with three rock and roll bands and DJs until late. Entry is £3.
A bucket collection held at Asda in Stanley raised £6,250. Staff would like to thank customers.
Staff and customers at Trades nightclub in John Street, Consett raised £1,390 during collections on New Year's Eve and January 2.
Collections among the audience at the last four performances of the pantomime Jack and the Beanstalk at the Empire Theatre in Consett, raised more than £800. The theatre management thanks everyone who contributed.
