PLANS for flood alleviation in Northallerton are going out for public consultation.
The town suffered severe flooding in 2000 and 2002 and the county council, Hambleton District Council and Yorkshire Water have since been working on a number of schemes.
The design work is now substantially complete for the projects in Brompton, Northallerton and Romanby.
But before making a formal planning application, the county intends to visit landowners and will hold four public exhibitions.
A newsletter explaining the projects is also being delivered to properties in and around Brompton, North-allerton and Romanby.
The executive member for environmental services, councillor Peter Sowray, said: "For some time, the county council has recognised the flooding problems which have affected key locations in the Northallerton area in recent years.
"The projects we are committed to demonstrate our resolve to alleviate flood problems wherever possible."
The public meetings will be as follows:
* January 19 - Northallerton Town Hall, 3pm to 8pm - Turker Beck scheme;
* January 20 - Brompton Village Hall, 3pm to 7pm - Brompton storage scheme;
* January 21 - Northallerton Town Hall, 3pm to 8pm - Sun Beck scheme;
* January 26 - Northallerton Town Hall, 3pm to 8pm - Bullamoor Tank/Valley Road scheme.
