MIDDLESBROUGH Motor Club held an adults only trial at Lazonby Bank Woods, Eston, last weekend and attracted a fair entry of 56 competitors.

The four-lap, ten-section course, with all the usual steep climbs and descents over tree roots, mud and water, gave the riders plenty to think about.

David Pye, riding his Sherco, finally finished five marks clear of Steve Suddes (Gas Gas) to take the overall win, while there was plenty of competition for the leading places in the clubmen's class.

In clubmen A, Barry Chapman took the class win on his Beta by a margin of seven marks from Paul Conroy (Gas Gas), with Steve Duncan (Gas Gas) a further three marks down.

Things were even closer in Clubmen B, where the class win went to Alan Cross (Fantic), who finished four marks clear of Ian Morley (Beta), with John Pattinson just one mark behind him on his Triumph Tiger Cub.

* The Ilkley Motor Club's annual New Year Trial saw Ben Hemingway on his Montesa take the A K Dawson Trophy for the outright win, finishing just nine marks clear of his brother, Dan Hemingway (Beta).

Liam Walker (Gas Gas) was a further five marks down, closely followed by Sam Ludgate (Beta).

The best ride from a Richmond club member came from John Sunter (Montesa), who finished tenth overall.
