A LEADING brass band conductor helped musical youngsters scale new heights yesterday.
Conductor of the Black Dyke Band Dr Nicholas Childs leant his extensive experience and enthusiasm to 50 young people who wanted to polish up their brass technique.
He led a young people's brass band workshop at County Hall, Durham, with four Black Dyke Band principals.
Alan Hood, Durham County Council's music development officer, said: "Nicholas' knowledge and sense of fun makes him a constant favourite with the youngsters who attend his workshops.
"He has presented the young people's brass band workshop for the last five years and, once again, he was joined by his equally popular Black Dyke colleagues."
They were Morven Gilchrist on cornet, Lesley Howie, horns and flugel, Brett Baker, trombone, and Philip Goodwin, lower brass instruments.
Mr Hood said: "County Hall is an excellent venue for this event which culminated in a concert for parents and friends in the impressive setting of the council chamber."
