PLANS to build a £4.5m Springs fitness and leisure club in Middlesbrough, by extending the Tennis World complex in Marton Road, has been approved by councillors.
The project, which will create 70 jobs, has the support of the Lawn Tennis Association. The new club is expected to be up-and-running within six months of work starting.
Tennis World will be extended and renovated, mainly to accommodate the new fitness and leisure club, which will include a spa providing holistic treatments and a swimming pool.
There will also be hair and beauty salons available to non-members. There will be a crche and children's zone, plus a lounge and function room with adjoining bar.
A Springs spokesman said: "There are one or two small points needing clarification but once these are out the way the work will begin."
