POLICE are warning residents of Teesdale to secure outbuildings and garages after a spate of burglaries that are being linked.
In the early hours of yesterday, two men were disturbed at outbuildings in Spa Road, Gainford. The men had broken padlocks on the doors of four buildings but nothing was stolen.
On Sunday morning, a shed at Highcliffe Edge, Winston, was broken into and tools were stolen.
A farm building near Bowes was broken into overnight last Tuesday. A chainsaw and petrol generator were stolen.
The same night, thieves stole golf clubs and a hedgetrimmer from a garage in Wackerfield.
A garage door padlock was removed at Meadowcroft, Cockfield, between 6pm and 11pm on Thursday but nothing was stolen. The following evening in Cockfield, a 50cc blue and orange Asprilia scooter was taken from a rear yard.
Inspector Kevin Tuck, of Barnard Castle police, said: "It's possible these crimes could be connected. It appears they've all been targeted because of their solitary situation and relative isolation.
