ENTRIES for this year's Great North Run are now open, with an entry ballot in operation for the first time.
The 25th annual race will take place on September 18, but new arrangements are in place because demand for places is expected to be high.
This year's event has an entry limit of 50,000, making it the world's biggest half-marathon. Last year's event was full within ten days.
The ballot will be open until midnight on February 14, and all applicants will be advised by February 22 whether their application has been successful. To enter, go to www. greatrun.org or call (0906) 959 2525.
