SCHOOLCHILDREN in Hartlepool have turned to the Yellow Pages to go green.
Youngsters at 16 primary schools are taking part in a Woodland Trust campaign to recycle Yellow Pages.
The aim of the Yellow Woods Challenge is to teach children the recycling habit and about paper, and woodland conservation.
Schools collecting the most directories will win cash prizes. For every pound awarded to schools, a pound will go to the Woodland Trust for tree planting.
Clare Belcher, Hartlepool Borough Council's recycling officer, said: "The Yellow Woods Challenge not only keeps old directories out of landfill, but also helps us to deliver lots of other recycling messages to schools."
Richard Duggleby, of Yell, publisher of Yellow Pages, said: "We expect 300,000 pupils across the UK to have fun recycling Yellow Pages directories and learning about the environment."
Clavering, Elwick, Fens, Greatham, Seaton Holy Trinity, Lynnfield, Rossmere, Sacred Heart, St Aidan's, St Bega's, St Helen's, St John Vianney, St Joseph's, Stranton, Throston and Catcote primary schools have joined the challenge
