HOMEOWNERS are being warned to beware of cowboy builders in the aftermath of recent storms.
The Federation of Master Builders is warning people who have suffered property damage to check the credentials of anyone they take on to do repairs.
The FMB is worries that bad weather could bring out rogue firms preying on householders desperate to get their property repaired.
Regional director Barry Oliver said: "Many people will be in a rush to repair damage resulting from gales and flooding, but we urge home owners to make sure they employ a reputable builder to do the work.
"Rogue builders are preying on unsuspecting and sometimes desperate people who need to fix their homes quickly.
"These builders are often incompetent and may even leave the job incomplete after asking for payment up front in cash before they start."
The FMB offers a free service to people looking for a reputable firm. This can be accessed through www.findabuilder.co.uk or on 08000 152222.
