KIRKBY Malzeard saw their Senior Cup hopes end in disappointment last Saturday as visitors Harlow Hill won a thrilling quarter-final tie 4-3 in extra time.
Kirkby had beaten the visitors 6-0 in the league just before Christmas and a repeat looked on the cards when goals from Andy Thompson and Duncan Terry put them 2-0 up inside half an hour.
But the game changed in the space of a minute just before the break when Paul Pollard missed a great chance to make it 3-0 and Harlow immediately went up the other end to pull a goal back.
That gave the visitors a lifeline and they equalised in the 65th minute.
Kirkby then thought they had clinched their place in the semi-final when substitute Mark Foyle put them back in front with only five minutes left.
But Harlow scored a controversial goal in the last few seconds to send the tie into extra time.
There was more then a hint of offside about it, but the goal was allowed to stand and Kirkby's frustrations increased when the visitors went ahead for the first time ten minutes into the extra period.
Despite a late rally by the home side which saw them hit the woodwork twice, they could not force an equaliser.
In division one, Dalton Athletic travelled to Killinghall Nomads and came from behind to grab a 2-2 draw.
The home team started strongly and were 2-0 up inside 20 minutes, but Dalton weathered the storm and slowly began to get into the match.
Richard Balderson's 11th goal of the season in the 38th minute put them right back in it and they dominated the second half.
It was not until ten minutes from time that Gary Foster fired in the equaliser, but Dalton almost nicked all three points when Foster fired over in the last minute.
In division two, Catterick Village were beaten 5-1 away to Empress. The hosts have been on a good run and were 2-0 up after ten minutes, but Catterick recovered and were unlucky to still be behind at the break.
David West pulled a goal back in the 25th minute after Andy Coe's free kick fell kindly to him and they then missed several chances to equalise. But Catterick were made to pay as Empress hit three goals in the second half to end up easy winners.
Elsewhere, Ripon Red Arrows lost 3-1 at home to high-flying Otley Rovers. The visitors seemed in control with goals in the 25th and 60th minutes, but Matthew Clark's effort with 15 minutes left set up a frantic finale.
However, Otley wrapped up the points with a third goal in the 85th minute to keep alive their promotion hopes.
Ripon City Magnets A also suffered a 3-1 defeat, this time at lowly Pateley Bridge Reserves. The home side took the lead after ten minutes and further goals either side of half-time seemed to end the match as a contest.
Tim Wilber got one back for the Magnets ten minutes into the second half, but despite hitting the woodwork and going close on several other occasions, they could not find a way back into the match.
Boroughbridge A fared little better, going down 3-0 at Pannal Sports Reserves.
They started brightly, but did not take their chances and once the hosts took the lead in the 21st minute there was only going to be one winner.
Pannal made it 2-0 in the 42nd minute and wrapped up victory with a third goal 12 minutes from time.
