A PRO-PALESTINIAN group may be launched on Teesside.

A number of anti-war organisations are supporting a public meeting about Palestine, which will take place in Middlesbrough on Tuesday.

Pete Smith, chairman of Teesside Against the War, said: "It is vital that we keep the focus on this crucial area of Middle-East politics.

"The future of the people of Iraq, Iran, Syria and Israel are all linked to the plight of the occupied people of Palestine. We hope that one outcome of this meeting will be the formation of a Teesside branch of the Palestine Solidarity Campaign."

Speakers will include Professor Bill Williamson, from the University of Durham, Dr Esti Rimmer, an Israeli and a member of Just Peace UK, and Yousef Al-Hajjar, a Palestinian student from Gaza.

The meeting, in the St Mary's Centre from 7.30pm, is backed by Teesside Against the War, the Palestine Solidarity Campaign, anti-war party Respect and the North-East Coalition for Asylum Rights.
