A CAMPAIGN to rid Darlington of its abandoned cars has proved a success, according to council chiefs.
Darlington Borough Council launched a fortnight-long car amnesty at the start of this week.
The authority is offering a free service to collect and dispose of any car that the owner wants scrapped.
And 22 vehicles were taken away on the first day, to the delight of scheme organisers.
