Pupils have brightened up their play area with the help of a graffiti artist.
Children at Warwick Road Primary School, in Bishop Auckland, took part in the artistic challenge funded through the Children's Fund.
The eight to 13-year-olds, who have moderate learning difficulties, will be moving to new premises in September. They are surrounded by wooden hoardings while work is being carried out.
George Keig, premises manager, said: "We were concerned that the hoardings were unattractive and oppressive and decided to bring in a resident artist to cheer the place up for the children.''
About 50 pupils worked with County Durham Youth Engagement Service and graffiti artist Paul Richardson on the scheme.
