A CREDIT union hopes to reach more low-income savers through a deal with a housing company.
Wearside First was launched in 2003 to help people who cannot get bank accounts and to provide loans below the commercial rate of interest.
The union hopes it will attract more members after the Sunderland Housing Group, which took over all Wearside's council housing, agreed to accept deposits at its 26 cash offices across the area.
Spokesman Terry Molloy said it had helped tackle financial and social exclusion
"This new venture with Sunderland Housing Group is a fantastic opportunity to extend our current provision and reach a greater number of people throughout Wearside," he said.
