AN arts project which promote walking and cycling has been awarded a £20,000 grant.
The award, for North Yorkshire County Council, was one of a number of grants announced by the Arts Council yesterday.
The council will use the money to pay an artist to create a display, which will visit schools and market towns.
Travel awareness officer Geoff Gardner said: "This project will get people thinking about what they want from their towns and about changes they can make to the way we travel and the environment."
Other projects awarded grants include £4,800 for Julie McLinden, a painter from Kildale in the North York Moors.
The money is for an 18-month project to create paintings depicting the characters who live and work in the village.
