PLANS to construct an overflow car park at the Locomotion: National Railway Museum won't solve the problem, say residents.
People living in the Victoria Street and Station Street, Shildon, have been plagued by visitors to the museum parking outside their homes due to a shortage of car parking spaces at the attraction.
Sedgefield Borough Council, which runs the venture in partnership with the National Railway Museum, has announced that it was to create an overflow car park in Redworth Road in the town to try to alleviate the problem. But residents said it would be of no help to them.
Jackie West, of Victoria Street, said: "That's not enough. They have had 80,000 visitors. Where on earth do they think they are parking?
"We are just going to have to keep fighting for resident parking.''
A spokesman for the council said it was taking the residents' complaints seriously.
He said: "The importance of providing the overflow car park cannot be underestimated for local residents."
At the moment the Redworth Road car park provides 47 car parking spaces, eight disabled spaces and four coach spaces.
The overflow will provide an additional 48 car parking spaces and a further four car parking spaces.
