A COMMUNITY policeman is retiring after 30 years.
PC Dai Davies, 55, will work his last day for North Yorkshire Police on Monday.
He received a lifetime achievement award last year and the Ryedale Community Police Office of the Year award in 2003 for his work in Malton.
He said: "All I've done is 30 years in Malton and I've thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. The amount of form-filling and paperwork is growing daily, but it's still the best job in the world."
PC Davies, who is originally from South Wales, said he remembered Malton being a much more violent town when he began his policing career in 1975. "Serious assaults were common with more than a few caused by broken bottles or glasses," he said.
After he retires, he is hoping to cycle from Northern France to the Mediterranean.
