Three men are helping police with their inquiries following the discovery of drugs worth an estimated £300,000 concealed in the boot of a car.
The arrests followed a routine stopcheck by officers on two suspicious vehicles in Borough Road, Middlesbrough, on Wednesday night.
A spokesman said six bags of heroin were found in the boot of a VW being driven by a man, who told detectives he was from the London area.
Forensic experts are examining the powder, which the spokesman said could be worth £500,000 if it is heroin or £250,000 if it is cocaine. Two other men, a 24-year-old from Middlesbrough and a 22-year-old from London, were arrested from another car.
