A POLICE inspector has been disciplined for breaches of regulations.
Steve Bakewell, a control room inspector with Cleveland Police, has been reprimanded and fined.
He faced six disciplinary charges following a four-year long independent investigation into allegations brought by former Cleveland traffic cop Sultan Alam that he was framed for a crime he did not commit.
A spokeswoman for the force said: "Following a disciplinary hearing, an officer has been reprimanded and fined three days pay after admitting two breaches of regulations. Three similar charges were dismissed and no evidence offered on a fourth.''
Mr Alam, who served nine months of an 18-month sentence for handling stolen car parts, said: "This is not the outcome I expected. However, in my opinion, his admission does speak volumes.''
Mr Bakewell, from Yarm, near Stockton, former detective inspector Russ Daglish, 44, of Stainton, detective constables Martin Eggermont, 46, of Guisborough and Stewart Hopson, 40, of Ingleby Barwick, all on Teesside, all appeared at Newcastle Crown Court, last year, on charges of perverting the course of justice.
Det Con Hopson and Insp Bakewell were also charged with perjury, and Det Con Eggermont with incitement to commit theft of a motor vehicle. All the charges were dismissed when the case collapsed
