MAJOR roadworks have been announced for the centre of a Teesside town.
Serious disruption is expected for the centre of Stockton as roads are built to service the £300m North Shore project.
Other works are planned to replace the junction at the end of the Princess of Wales bridge and to improve the Church Road route to Portrack.
The scheme, by Tees Valley Regeneration and Stockton Borough Council, is ongoing and temporary road and lane closures have been announced.
From next Friday, the section of road towards Portrack from Church Road and Maritime Road roundabout as far as the Reg Vardy roundabout will be closed for about four months.
A traffic-lights controlled junction at the west end of Portrack Lane will take traffic on to Maritime Road until the work to raise the level of Church Road is complete.
There has been a decision to combine the temporary closure of Church Road with the replacement of the junction on Riverside Road.
That means the left turn from Riverside Road into Teesdale and the right turn from Teesdale on to Riverside Road will be closed for about three months, from Friday, February 18.
The left turn from Teesdale on to Riverside Road will be kept open as long as possible, but will also have to be closed as work progresses. Sections of Riverside Road will also be reduced to one lane in both directions.
The work had been scheduled to finish at the end of August, but it is now hoped it will end by July 1.
