PLANS to provide a multiplex cinema, 1,500-seat theatre and concert arena in a seaside town were outlined yesterday.
Consultants have carried out a review of the cinemas and theatres in Scarborough and have come up with a range of options for developments.
The first option would see the town's Spa Complex retained as a conference venue with improvements to the Grand Hall. The Spa Theatre would be converted to a flexible space with removable seats.
The Futurist auditorium site would be converted to include a multiplex cinema, restaurants, a hotel, parking and homes.
Option two proposes redeveloping the Futurist site to give enough space for a cinema, restaurants and hotel, plus other leisure activities.
The Spa would become the town's main venue for music and entertainment. The stage in the Grand Hall would be extended, seating and acoustics improved and emergency exits added.
Councillor David Jeffels, cabinet member for tourism and leisure services, said: "This report provides a valuable insight into the theatre and cinema preferences of our residents and visitors and contributes significantly to the overall regeneration of the town."
Councillors will discuss a report on the proposals next week.
Officers have recommended that further investigations be carried out into the feasibility of both options.
