A PRO-am golf tournament raised £9,000 for charity without a single ball being struck.
Last year's Cleveland Police charity match was cancelled because the course was waterlogged after heavy rain.
The tournament's company sponsors were offered their entrance money back - but most declined.
Chief Superintendent Mark Braithwaite, Middlesbrough's district police commander, said: "On the ground, the tournament was a washout, with puddles on every green. But it was not a disaster because we did not have any overheads to pay.''
Money was also raised by a charity auction and a lottery prize draw.
A cheque for £8,000 was presented to surgeon Adrian Davies, for the South Cleveland Heart Fund and £1,000 to the Zoe's Place children's hospice at Normanby.
