A WATCHDOG is set to drop its plans to investigate a North-East charity.
The Charities Commission "opened an evaluation" into Teesside-run Convoy Aid, after a member of the public spotted a glitch on the charity's website.
Although the mistake was corrected within hours, an official at the commission set Convoy Aid Romania a deadline to supply details of trustees and bank accounts.
A spokeswoman for the Commission said: "Convoy Aid Romania is co-operating with our inquiries and we welcome the change to the wording on the organisation's website to clarify its status.
"We are now considering further points that were raised by the organisation to determine whether our continued involvement is necessary and, in particular, about whether they should register with the Charity Commission.''
Rod Jones, who runs Convoy Aid, said: "I am very happy with that. For some people there is no smoke without fire, but the commission has taken away the smoke.''
Mr Jones's Romanian wife, Gabriella, is a director of the charity which is based on a Romanian foundation. A lorry takes aid to Romania, from Teesside three times a year.
