CHILDREN with an interest in history want to hear from people who remember the Second World War.
Pupils from Harrogate Grammar School, in North Yorkshire, are preparing for their People's War Project to commemorate the 60th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day.
The school held a highly acclaimed commemoration of the 50th anniversary in 1995, and have secured a £20,000 National Lottery grant to mark the 60th anniversary.
Organisers want to hear from anyone who was on the front line, in the Home Front, an evacuee or who has other vivid memories of wartime.
It started when the school's history department decided to join forces with the rest of the pupils and staff.
A school spokesman said: "The idea was to recall the many experiences of the Second World War and enable staff and pupils to learn about this important event in our history."
Their commemoration day will be on July 11. Workshops will highlight foods of the day as well as the make-do-and-mend regime, when clothes were darned and when food was rationed.
Entertainment from the era will also feature, while members of the Armed Forces will be there to explain what happened and why.
One of the key elements for the day will be contributions from people who can recall incidents and memories from the time.
Co-ordinator Katie Hall said: "However little you think you did, we want to hear from you and collect a full range of experiences."
