A joiner is hanging up his hammer and saw after working for more than three decades at a County Durham museum.
Roy Wood, 65, is retiring as a woodwork technician at the Bowes Museum, in Barnard Castle, after working there for 33 years.
Mr Wood, who lives in Barnard Castle, began an apprenticeship with local firm TH Hogget and Son when he left school in 1955.
He then began working for Durham County Council in 1966 and, as well as maintenance work at schools and fire stations, he worked at the museum.
He joined the museum full-time in 1972 and was one of only 15 members of staff, compared to nearly 50 today. He said: "Coming to work at the Bowes Museum was the best thing I ever did."
Museum director Adrian Jenkins said: "For more than three decades, Roy has been a respected member of the Bowes team. His contribution to the many developments over the years has been enormous."
Colleagues presented Mr Wood with several gifts, including a digital camera.
