LEADERS of a scheme to generate a town's economy are exploring the idea of building a monorail.
The idea is being promoted as a cheaper alternative to a £21m scheme to reinstate the rail link between Pickering and Malton.
The possibility of building a monorail has been discussed by the Pickering 2020 Vision Town Team, which is exploring ways to enhance the town's economy and quality of life.
Behind the scheme is retired consultant medicinal herbalist George Turner, of Great Habton, who is convinced it would be a cheaper option than the rail link.
Experts involved in building a similar system in Hull have agreed to attend a meeting at Pickering Memorial Hall, said Mr Turner.
The monorail would travel at about 30ft to 40ft above ground level, depending on the terrain.
