ALAN SHEARER admitted that no-one has been happy with the unsavoury events surrounding St James' Park, but added: "No-one is bigger than the club."
Newcastle United have been involved in a public slanging match with striker Craig Bellamy, manager Graeme Souness and chairman Freddy Shepherd leading the heated debate.
Souness said Bellamy, who last night joined Celtic on loan until the end of the season, would never play for the club again while he is the manager.
Skipper Shearer was keen not to dwell on the incident after one of the most difficult weeks in the club's recent history. Instead, he preferred to praise several of his teammates after the win over Coventry.
"You can't turn the clock back and say it has been a nice week," said Shearer. "What happened has not left anyone happy. If there is one thing to say, it is that no-one is bigger than this club - not me, not anyone else.
"I don't want to start talking about anything but the positive, and what came out of the win was a lot of positives, even against a side playing in the Championship."
Amdy Faye made an impressive debut in the fourth round FA Cup victory.
Shearer was delighted with the ease in which the Senegalese international slotted into his new defensive midfield holding role following his £2m move from Portsmouth.
"He did very well," admitted Shearer. "It says a lot for him how quickly he has settled in.
"We have needed that type of player to break things up for us and it is one of the most important roles in a team. Every top side has a quality player in that position. Chelsea have Makelele, Manchester United have Keane and Arsenal have Vieira. Now we have two.
"I was particularly impressed with Babayaro. Not only can he defend and put his foot in, but as an attacking full-back he really does give us something extra. He has really impressed me and done very well since he arrived."
The 34-year-old striker also hailed Kieron Dyer's resilience after bouncing back from being verbally abused following Newcastle's home win against Southampton, to give an inspirational performance against Coventry.
"He needed another good performance against Coventry, especially after what happened to him during the last home game against Southampton," said Shearer.
"He has so much going for him, we have to keep him in the game as much as we can, particularly with his non-stop energy."
