Plans for a large store development on the outskirts of Bishop Auckland have been given the go-ahead.
The outline planning application for a 30,000sq ft non-food retail unit off Watling Road, at Tindale Crescent, was passed by members of Wear Valley District Council's development control committee.
There are also two further applications for a Homebase store and accompanying restaurant and a new B&Q on neighbouring land currently occupied by Keen Replicas.
Members of Bishop Auckland Chamber of Trade said that they had no objections to the development as long as it was not retail.
Plans to build five detached dwellings at land south east of Woodifield Hill, Crook, were refused by the committee. Proposals to build a four bedroom dwelling at Hillside Court, North Bitchburn, were withdrawn
