A MAN indecently assaulted a teenage girl as she walked home, police said last night.
The 18-year-old came out of Consett bus station and was at the junction of Egglestone Drive and Knitsley Lane when she realised she was being followed.
She speeded up but the man caught up with her and grabbed her.
The girl told police he sounded and smelt as if he had been drinking alcohol.
He tried to open her trousers but she managed to struggle free and ran off.
The attack happened on Friday at 8.20pm. The man is described as white, 6ft, in his late teens or early 20s, of average build with short, brown hair.
He was wearing a blue and white Henri Lloyd design jacket and jeans or dark tracksuit bottoms.
