AN organisation representing landowners has warned there is still widespread confusion in the region over new right to roam laws.
From the spring bank holiday weekend in May, the public will have access to thousands of acres of moorland and open countryside in the North-East and North Yorkshire for the first time.
But the Country Land and Business Association (CLA) says many farmers and walkers are still unclear about what the laws mean.
CLA Yorkshire advisor Jane Harrison said: "The Countryside and Rights of Way Act is a complex piece of legislation and it is understandable that many people are confused and myths have arisen. It is also disappointing, given the amount of public funds spent on publicising the new rights."
In an effort to educate landowners on the laws, the Yorkshire branch of the CLA is holding a series of briefings in the region.
These will be held in Middleham, North Yorkshire, on Monday, February 14, Pickering, North Yorkshire, on Tuesday, February 15. and Stanhope, County Durham, on Tuesday, March 1.
