FAMILIES in a cul-de-sac say they are living in fear of a serial cat killer.
The villagers fear a poisoner is in their midst after two family cats were killed and another went missing on the same day.
Two pets were found dead close to their owners' homes in Ashbourne Drive, Coxhoe, near Durham, with foam coming from their mouths.
No trace of the third animal has been found.
Police launched an investigation after being told that the cats were not the first in the street to be killed.
A cat was found dead last year and another disappeared - making a total of five victims living in only a handful of homes in the cul-de-sac.
Residents fear a cat hater is targeting the pets. One family has put up a poster on a lamppost in the cul-de-sac - a street of modern detached homes - urging owners to be vigilant and warning that a poisoner is at work.
