THE trial of a lorry driver accused of fleeing the scene of a crash in which a North-East man was killed has been delayed.
The Crown Prosecution Service says it is unable to proceed with the prosecution of Huig Ouwehand until an inquest has taken place.
The 51-year-old Dutchman faces charges of careless driving and failing to stop at the scene of an accident on December 1, in which Kristoffer Tott died.
Mr Tott, a 22-year-old senior RAF aircraftsman of Harlsey Road, Hartburn, Stockton, died in hospital eight days after the collision, which involved his Honda car and two lorries on the A12 at Newmarket, Suffolk.
Ouwehand, who works for a Dutch flower delivery company, is also charged with driving for more than ten consecutive hours and failing to take a rest of at least nine hours in breach of EU regulations.
He is on bail of £10,000, provided by his employer's UK agents.
