Chester-le-Street TG: MEMBERS and two visitors, Ruby Carr and Janice Clasper, were welcomed to the meeting of Chester-le-StreetTownswomen's Guild in the Parish Centre.
Chairman Doreen Yeates opened the proceedings. Sick members were mentioned and sent good wishes.
The speaker for the evening was Peter Weighhill, whose subject was The Mighty Mississippi. The talk was illustrated using slides, so members enjoyed some of the sights he had seen on his journey. Jean Boggon gave the vote of thanks.
The secretary Dorothy Lowery gave her report. Events held over the Christmas period were discussed and the treasurer's report given. The door prize was won by Dorothy Lowery. The competition for an American souvenir was won by Jean Boggon with Margaret Gair the runner-up.
The following week, new member Mrs Willis was welcomed along with two visitors, Heather Hanson and Janice Clasper. Speakers for the evening were Chris and Paul of the Teesside and Weardale Search and Rescue Team. Members heard aboutthevaried types of rescues they have carried out.
Memberswere very interested and Chris and Paul answered many questions. After the vote of thanks by Doreen the Federation report was read and there was a discussion on the competitions for Federation Day in May.
Wentworth Park WI
THE January meeting, held in Ouston Community Centre, was opened with Jerusalem. President Audrey Stephenson wished everyone a Happy New Year and Iris Robinson gave us the minutes of the November meeting.
OliveNorwood, Olive Watt, Margaret Johnson and Nora Dixon were all wished a happy birthday. The outing to Harperley Hall in February was discussed.
Memberswere then guided through the works of Shakespeare by the DurhamShakespeare Group, which was very enjoyable.
Members brought along theatre programmes, a competition to complement our entertainment.
The winner was Olive Harwood, who continued her lucky evening by winning the door prize.
