A NIGHT of Thai culture in the North-East has raised over £40,000 for victims of the tsunami in south-east Asia.
Luxury holidays in Thailand and signed Newcastle United football shirts were auctioned at the event held at the Federation Brewery, in Gateshead.
Guests enjoyed Thai snacks as well as entertainment. There was also an appearance by Miss Thailand World and the transvestite equivalent, Miss Thai Universe.
Organiser Pradit Manakit, who owns Numjai Thai restaurants in Durham and Newcastle, said: "People have been generous and given so much.
"This will help build the schools and homes of the people who have been most affected by the disaster."
About 1,000 people paid £25 each for a ticket and came from all over the country.
