A MYSTERY man's number has finally come up with a £50,000 win -35 years after he bought a Premium Bond.
The winner, from Newcastle, won the prize with his only Premium Bond, which was bought for £5 in January 1970.
After more than three decades, his numbers came up in this month's draw.
The long-awaited win is the latest in a lucky run for the region. In last month's draw, a Bond bought for £1 in 1962 won £5,000 for one Tyne and Wear punter.
Premium Bond spokeswoman Sally Swait said: "This win will be an incredible surprise for someone. These older Premium Bonds and those of relatively low value continue to win prizes, large and small. It goes to show that you do not always need to have a large investment to win something."
