SHOPPERS in Durham have a flipping fantastic opportunity to raise money for charity next week.
The Millburngate Shopping Centre is staging a Shrove Tuesday event next week to raise money for the Asian tsunami appeal.
From noon until 2pm, visitors to the patio area, near Framwellgate Bridge, will be able to sample pancakes with a variety of toppings for £1 each, with money raised going to the Red Cross appeal for the disaster in Asia.
Centre director Andy Bradley said: "The fundraising needs to continue and we thought that Shrove Tuesday was an ideal time for our shoppers to enjoy a pancake whilst helping to raise even more money for the appeal."
* Pupils at Durham Johnston School stayed quiet for an hour and raised at least £504 for the disaster fund.
The idea for the sponsored silence came from 12 and 13-year-olds in form 8M and 26 of them rose to the challenge of staying silent for 60 minutes.
Form tutor Gill Wood said: "I didn't ever imagine we would get that amount of money."
