THE battle against speeding motorists is being stepped up in the Hambleton area.
Traffic warden Brian Tongue and community safety officers Angie Preston, Paul Gilby, Chris Ross and Sergeant Matt France have been trained by the fire service to use the partnership's speed matrix sign.
The £12,000 sign flashes the speed limit at any vehicle exceeding it, as well as logging the speeds of all vehicles as they pass by.
It is used on roads where there are well-known accident hotspots and where speed limits of up to 40mph are in force.
"The training of the new officers will enable wider use of the sign," said partnership officer Simon Gibson. "It will mean we can get out on to the streets and use it more. The traffic warden will use it around primary schools, where we are currently undertaking spot-checks."
