POLICE returned to the scene where a teenager was raped in the hope of finding witnesses.

A 14-year-old was attacked by an older teenager on Friday in a waiting area of Stockton railway station.

Officers from the British Transport Police returned to the station on Friday night to seek witnesses who may have been close to the scene at the time of the attack.

Detective Sergeant Alan Darlington said they were also speaking to people in the area behind the station, known locally as Pencil Path.

He said: "There weren't many people around the station at that time, but we searched the whole area.

"It's surprising what we often get from this sort of investigation and it is a well-used tactic."

A security camera covers most of the station, but not the waiting area where the girl was attacked, between 8.30pm and 9.30pm.

She met the offender and his friend at the junction of Dundas Street and Hamilton Road, then walked with them to the station.

The suspect is described as white, aged 17 to 18, thin with dark hair, a pointed nose and spots on his forehead.

Anyone with information is asked to contact British Transport Police on 0800 405040, or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
