A TEENAGER has been selected to represent Great Britain at an athletics competition for disabled people in the US.
Mary Suggett, 16, of Browning Close, east Stanley, County Durham, will take part in discus, shot and club-throwing at the CP-ISRA World Championships, in Connecticut, this summer.
She suffers from cerebral palsy and spends most of her time in a wheelchair, but has a throwing frame for competitions.
She has won gold medals in national contests for the past four years.
Her father, David, said: "We are over the moon for her and it is great that she has found something she is capable of doing very well. She trains very hard, so she deserves to go to America."
Mary attends the specialist Percy Hedley School, in Forest Hall, Newcastle.
The family is looking for sponsors to help them raise money for the trip. To help, call (01207) 281137.
