POLICE have appealed for witnesses to a collision where a driver failed to stop.
The accident happened at the junction of Holmehill Lane and Cocken Road, north of Pity Me, near Durham, at 8.45am, on Friday, January 28.
The Leyland Daf pick-up truck was on Holmehill Lane, indicating to turn right on to Cocken Lane when a green Fiat Punto driving down Cocken Lane then turned left on to Holmehill Lane.
The woman driver lost control of the car at the junction and collided with the truck, seriously damaging both vehicles. She also narrowly missed a car waiting behind the truck.
Although several parts of her car's bodywork lay strewn on the road, the driver did not stop and continued towards Durham's Arnison Centre.
A police spokesman said: "The man driving the truck was left shaken but uninjured. Police are concerned the woman at the wheel of the Punto may have been injured but not sought the correct medical treatment.
"Judging by the parts of the car left behind police believe it was a P or R registration. They also think it likely the Punto driver would have been on her way to work at that time, and may have still been shaken when she arrived."
