AN education company is creating jobs in the region - and reversing the trend for businesses moving from Britain to Asia.

Nisai Group's education technology business was based in India, but will move to Middlesbrough.

Nisai's education division provides live teaching through a "virtual academy".

Students who are at home due to long-term sickness receive lessons from teachers via the Internet.

The move will create 30 jobs at Riverside Park, but is expected to create a total of 120 during the next three years. Regional development agency One NorthEast work-ed with the company to bring it to the region.

Paul Callaghan, investment and aftercare specialist at One NorthEast, said: "This is tremendous news for the Tees Valley and the wider region.

"It represents a significant show of confidence in the skills of the graduates coming out of the University of Teesside and the North-East workforce's reputation for enthusiasm and commitment to the area."

The investment is a coup for Middlesbrough, with Nisai Group becoming one of the first companies to work in the so-called DigitalCity - a regeneration project funded by One NorthEast and delivered through the University of Teesside.

More than 40 local education authorities have signed up with the Nisai group.
