COUNCIL bosses are pressing for the A66 trunk road near Darlington to be fully dualled.
A study by the North-East Assembly calls for dual carriageway on the road, which carries more than 20,000 vehicles a day, which could rise to 41,000 by 2025.
Several options have been put forward - and Darlington Borough Council is likely to favour the full dualling of the road at a cost of £118m when it meets on Tuesday, but are likely to say the Government's preferred option - a £52m scheme, dualling from the A67 Yarm Road junction to the east of the Great Burdon roundabout, and improving junctions south of Darlington - is acceptable.
