A PANCAKE race was broadcast on live radio from a Darlington supermarket yesterday.
BBC Radio Cleveland provided commentary as three teams competed in the car park of the Sainsbury's store.
A supermarket team went head-to-head with a couple raising money for St Teresa's Hospice. DJ Neil Green also took part in the race - as well as commentating on it - alongside Northern Echo reporter Daniel King.
The event was won by Darlington couple Dawn Richardson and Graham Park, who were first past the post, tossing pancakes as they ran.
"It was good fun," said 33-year-old Ms Richardson, who is flying out to South Africa in June to raise money for the hospice by running in a 54-mile race, in extreme temperatures.
"I looked after two family friends in December, which made me want to raise money for the hospice," said Ms Richardson, who hopes to raise at least £2,000.
In second place were Sainsbury's workers Graham McLaren, 24, of the Denes, Darlington, and 21-year-old Sarah Turnbull, of Elmfield Terrace, Darlington.
The combined Northern Echo and Radio Cleveland team came a pathetic last.
